The proposed hike in the CTA fare from $1.75 to $2 still makes riding the “L” or a CTA bus a remarkably good value for the money (“Under the CTA’s plan, your ride could cost . . . $2; Proposed budget includes 25-cent hike for many riders, but no service cuts,” Page 1, Oct. 7). Presently you can travel from O’Hare to downtown for just $1.75.

A similar journey in Europe–from Heathrow to central London–costs nearly $10.

Public transport is the lifeblood of a city like Chicago; adding a quarter to the cost of a ticket will not damage that.
