First place in the Ohio Valley Conference will be at stake Saturday when Eastern Illinois (3-2, 2-0) plays host to Eastern Kentucky (3-3, 3-0).
The Panthers have won their last five homecoming games, including a 25-24 squeaker over Eastern Kentucky in 2002. However, Eastern Kentucky outscored EIU 90-6 the last two years, winning 41-0 and 49-6.
Coach Bob Spoo’s team should fare well if tailback Vincent Webb, wide receiver Ryan Voss and quarterback Mike Donato perform as they did in last weekend’s 48-24 victory over Southeast Missouri.
Webb rushed for 148 yards. Donato, a sophomore from Nazareth Academy, completed 11 of 15 passes for 208 yards, 103 of them to Voss.
Spoo, lauding Webb for knowing his playbook (and avoiding the use of one-syllable words whenever possible), said, “Vincent is like a coach on the field, because he’s very assignment competent.”
