Illinois quarterback Tim Brasic has rushed for 242 yards and needs only 56 yards in the last five games to break Rich Weiss’ 1978 single-season school record.
However, coach Ron Zook wants the scrambling quarterback in the shotgun offense to use a little more restraint when he carries the football.
“You love him because he’s trying to make things happen,” Zook said. “But when you’ve got the first down, get down. You’re not a running back. You’re a quarterback.”
Zook’s comments were prompted by Brasic’s second fumble of the season Saturday with the Illini trailing by eight in the fourth quarter. Indiana recover the fumble and turned it into a touchdown. . . .
Zook said he is “going to try to get (reserve freshman linebacker) Brit Miller on the field a little bit more. He’s an athletic guy, and I’m not satisfied with our linebacker corps.”
