A Taste of Heaven, 5401 N. Clark St., was shut down by Mayor Daley’s Dumpster Task Force this week for failure to correct previously cited rodent problems.

Inspectors saw a mouse running through the restaurant during a second inspection on Tuesday, said Matt Smith, spokesman for the Dumpster Task Force.

“We will not close a place unless they put a customer at risk. There’s no excuse for letting a bad situation get worse,” Smith said.

A Taste of Heaven owner Dan McCauley, 44, said there was no risk to customers.

He said inspectors paid special attention to a shared storage area in the building’s basement.

“They were looking at a storage area I didn’t even know was there,” McCauley said. “All we have down there is a few extra tables and chairs, and some holiday decorations that we have sealed.”

A Taste of Heaven will remain closed until it corrects problems, presents a revised plan for sanitation and pest control, and passes a reinspection, Smith said.
