Can the “redemption of Shoeless Joe” talk (Tribune, Oct. 11) please stop?

Congratulations to the White Sox. I hope they go all the way. Maybe then Tribune Co. will see the benefits of having a world champion in Chicago.

But the “redemption of Shoeless Joe”? The Sox could have had a world championship since 1917, but they threw it away. That is not a curse, that is a punishment. The “Curse of the Bambino,” that was business. The Billy Goat, that was a disgruntled old man (sorry, Mr. Sianis). The Black Sox plain and simply was a slap in the face of baseball’s integrity. Don’t try to call what happened in 1919 a curse.
