Bono ran out of lunch money Friday in a bidding war with Coldplay’s Chris Martin at a New York City charity auction. The hot item? A lunchbox designed by Michael Stipe. The hot-lunch ticket price? $20,000.

“It was death by Coldplay!” quipped Bono after he was beaten out for the prize.

The lunchbox was sold to benefit the Food Bank For New York City and The Lunchbox Fund. More than 100 celebrity-styled lunchboxes were up on the auction block. Included was a tin by President Bill Clinton, featuring a prominent picture of himself, which sold for $11,000 to Bono’s bandmate The Edge.
