After Chris Gaffney, 43, couldn’t get through to Ticketmaster, he headed over to eBay. Within minutes he entered the bidding on one auction that was nearing its conclusion, and 30 minutes later he was the proud owner of three lower-level tickets to Game 2.
All it cost him was $4,055.
“I had looked at that one before in the last few days,” Gaffney said. “Sat there and kept refreshing my screen. Other people kept outbidding me, and I kept bumping mine up.”
Gaffney, who grew up on the South Side but now lives in White Plains, N.Y., had planned to go as high as $4,500.
“They have a good team this year, but who the heck knows what’s going to happen next year,” Gaffney said.
“I hate to say it’s going to be another 46 years, but I’m probably not going to be around in another 46 years to see the next one. This could be once in a lifetime.”
