It looks like this smoking ban is going to pass in Chicago and send smoking customers from bars, restaurants and nightclubs outside.
I am begging you to stop and remember that the next time you feel like calling the police because the bar or club down the street is “making noise” once this smoking ban passes.
There will be intoxicated people smoking outside of bars and clubs until 2 or 4 in the morning, seven days a week.
And it’s not going to be the fault of the bar owners.
I’m sure every good bar owner will work hard to ask these customers to keep it down, but no matter how much one asks, people will continue to socialize.
It’s going to be hard enough to make them smoke outside, let alone make them stop talking too.
(I also think it would be unfair to ask them to stop talking.)
Please be understanding because if you get these bars and clubs shut down, Chicago loses one of the things that makes this city great.
We will lose a lot of cool and unique places because they can’t afford to hire a good lawyer to stop you.
Please remember that you have to take the bad with the good:
You want clean indoor air? Then you are going to have to put up with a little noise if you choose to move down the street from a bar or club.
The anti-smokers always say a smoking ban “works in New York; it works in California.”
Well, Chicago neighbor, if New York and L.A. can put up with the noise and litter, so can you!
Maybe instead of complaining, you should go support your local bar?
It is going to need your help as we change from a smoking to a non-smoking city.
And don’t forget to tip your bartender!
