In real life: The pace is definitely picking up for Iraq’s former president. After being held captive by military forces for almost two years, Hussein’s much-anticipated trial on crimes against humanity charges began Wednesday. At the hearing he pleaded not guilty and said he believes that he is still the president of Iraq. (Unfortunately for Saddam, not too many people agree with him on that point.) For someone facing the death penalty, he may want to shy away from any grinning. He’s likely to need all the sympathy he can get.
