J. Howard Cook, born Oct. 26, 1916 in Chicago, passed away Oct. 10, 2005 at his home after a long illness. Cherished husband of Ethel, nee Schick, married for 59 years (April 20, 1946); dear brother of Susan Cabell; fond uncle of Elisabeth “Gigi” Cabell, Beau Cabell, and Peter Cabell, all formerly of Lombard. Mr. Cook was a graduate of the University of Chicago, Class of 1938 and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and was on active duty from 1942 until 1945. He continued to serve in the Reserves and retired in 1976 with the rank of Commander. From 1968 to 1990 he served as a liaison Trade Representative for the Government of Ontario, Canada. He was an Officer in the Navy Sailing Association and an active member of the Chicago Yacht Club Race Committee participating in the Mackinac Race for 31 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the J. Howard Cook Memorial Fund, 21 S. Clark St., Suite IL 1-0135, Chicago, IL 60670-0135, Attn: Debra K. Luke. A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005 at the Chicago Yacht Club, 400 E. Monroe St., Phone: 312-861-7777. Burial will be private.
