Just two years after receiving updated census results, officials believe the town’s population has again grown significantly.
The Village Board agreed on Wednesday to a special census to be conducted in areas where growth and development have spiked in the last few years.
The census is expected to cost no more than $9,000 and be conducted in next May.
Steve Rockwell, community development director, said officials believe an additional 2,400 people have moved to town since 2003 when the population was estimated at 32,481. The 2000 census reported 21,153 Romeoville residents.
Officials believe the village could capture additional state tax revenue from the new population that would equal about $111 per person, Rockwell said.
