The president has expressed concern about a future outbreak of bird flu, similar to the 1918 epidemic that killed millions of people. At the moment the president’s plan to stave off such a crisis is a military one: to use the military to enforce quarantines over small and large areas of the United States to reduce the amount of contagion.
Next, of course, a plan must be based on science.
It’s ironic that the president, who doesn’t believe in evolution, must soon be relying on government health agencies and private corporations that use biological science to develop a vaccine that will do the job. All these groups accept the underlying reality of evolution and use its theoretical concepts.
