Chicago Christian raced to a four-touchdown lead and then withstood a furious fourth-quarter Aurora Christian comeback to win 28-20 and capture its fourth straight Private School League title.

The Knights (7-2, 7-0) avenged last year’s 42-33 loss to Aurora Christian (7-2, 5-2), the only Private School loss they have suffered under coach Mark VanderKooi.

Jon Merrick ran for 183 yards on 32 carries and scored two first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 1 and 5 yards.

“It was hectic,” said Merrick, who also played linebacker. “We had to stay strong. Our defense played great the first half. We just had to step up again.”
