This is regarding “It’s been a long time, Dad, but this Series is for you” (Perspective, Oct. 23), by Dan McGrath, Tribune associate managing editor for sports. McGrath’s piece was right on. It is amazing how many times this past week I have heard “if only my father was alive to see the Sox in the World Series.” Most of us on the South Side in the ’50s and ’60s had fathers who worked long hours or who worked two jobs to provide for us. The only pleasure a lot of them, my father included, could share with us with their love of the White Sox, warts and all. Most of our fathers were not intellectuals; they could not discuss philosophy or physics. But they could talk baseball and their love of the Sox.
