Dear Tom,
What was the weather like for the 1938 and 1945 World Series–the last two the Cubs were in?
Eleanor Lorenz Chicago
Dear Eleanor,
In 1938 when the New York Yankees swept the World Series from the Cubs in four straight games, the Cubs hosted the first two games at Wrigley Field. It was mild for the first game on Oct. 5 with temperatures in the 60s, but the next day it was cooler with highs only in the 50s. Some light showers occurred both days, but no rain fell during the games. The Cubs were the home team for the last four games of the 1945 World Series, which they lost to the Detroit Tigers 4 games to 3. The first two games on Oct. 6-7 were played in mild conditions with readings in 60s and 70s. It turned rather chilly for the last two games on Oct. 8 and 10 with game time temperatures holding in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
