Charlize Theron wants Halle Berry to know she’s sorry. For what? For something she didn’t say.

This convoluted story begins last year, when a profile in the New Yorker claimed that Theron told an assistant to “Write this down: ‘Note to self. Do not become Halle Berry.’ “

It was a reference to Theron’s Oscar hopes for “Monster,” and to Berry’s decision to star in “Catwoman” after winning an Oscar for “Monster’s Ball.” But Theron tells Entertainment Weekly and “Access Hollywood” she never uttered those words and that they hurt her because she doesn’t feel that way about Berry.

“That was a comment the writer made, and he said that I’d said it,” Theron told EW. She says she sent flowers to Berry with an apologetic note. That’s news to Berry, who told “Access,” “No, I didn’t get it.”

But Berry is side-stepping a potential war of words. “I think things get twisted a lot, and I don’t really put too much weight on what other people think about me, anyway, these days.”
