Twista is getting heat from a hometown hip-hop pioneer.
Faheem “BigFa” Shabazz, one of the founders of the Chi-Rock Hip Hop Nation–a leading force in a hip-hop movement that began 20 years ago–tells RedEye he feels disrespected by Twista’s decision to name his entertainment company Chi-Roc Entertainment.
Shabazz blasted the decision in a recent press release, claiming the name was stolen, and says he is filing a lawsuit against Twista. BigFa says he started Chi-Rock in 1985 as a positive group to counteract gang influence in the city.
In response, Twista released a statement saying he had come up with the name (Chi-Roc without the “k”) “as an honor and a tribute.”
“My goal was to pay tribute to the story of Chi-Rock, so I am outraged that the very people who were once on my side are now trying to bring a fellow Chicago rapper down,” he says.
