Taqueria Jamay at 2500 W. 51st St. reopened Thursday, a week after city inspectors closed it because of rodent infestation.

“They had a lot of problems that took a lot of time to correct,” said Matt Smith, Department of Streets and Sanitation spokesman, in an e-mail. “We are hopeful that what they have learned from this experience will result in a clean and safe environment for their customers in the future.”

The shop was issued citations for inadequate pest control, high weeds and clutter outside, and not having a certified food manager.

Inspectors found more than 200 mice droppings, primarily in the basement food storage and food preparation areas. Loose-fitting doors and inside holes allowed rats to nest, and a dead mouse was found in the basement.
