Neifi Perez and the Cubs have agreed to terms on a two-year deal that is expected to be announced Tuesday.

Perez, who joined the Cubs late in 2004, replaced an injured Nomar Garciaparra and became the Cubs’ primary shortstop last season. He started 118 games at shortstop and another 18 at second base, hitting .274 with nine home runs and 54 RBIs.

His versatility was attractive to the Cubs, who see him as a contingency plan at both middle infield positions.
