Jones shed no tears when seven players either flunked out or transferred after last season. “Sometimes you reach addition by subtraction,” said Jones, a demanding ex-Marine. “My team held me hostage last year. It had no chemistry. Constant bickering.” Jones recruited a new–and different–group. “Coaching this year is a pleasure,” he said. “No superstars. No egos.”
