Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
I’m a 38-year-old, single black female, and I’m happily child-free. (“No way, baby,” Nov. 16.) I’ve known since I was 13 that I didn’t want kids.
I don’t often run into a lot of pressure to change my mind, but I do get a lot of stupid comments like: “You must hate kids,” “Wait until you meet someone” or “Just try having one.”
That last comment made me laugh out loud. It was said to me via e-mail, and I quickly wrote back that “I’ll try some new food or a new lipstick, but I won’t ‘try’ just having one child like it’s a potato chip.”
Motherhood is a job I just don’t want. I love kids, but I love not having them more.
