In recent months we’ve been bombarded by negative coverage of President Bush from the mainstream media. In recent weeks, the Tribune’s RedEye published a few columns from Jimmy Greenfield in which he delighted in his hatred for President Bush.
The Nov. 4 column was titled “1,174 more Bush-bashing days left.” Another, on Nov. 11, had the headline “Stick it to Bush by being informed.”
The main newspaper’s version of Jimmy Greenfield would be Molly Ivins, who week after week on the Commentary page does nothing but rant against the president and Republicans in general.
Criticizing is one thing, publishing hate as journalism is another.
In the 1990s we were treated to articles and television news segments about Clinton-haters. I don’t remember seeing the same newspapers or TV news programs cover Bush-haters.
Greenfield suggests readers read everything they can and read sources that don’t agree with their point of view.
He suggests by doing so you, too, will be a Bush-hater.
I suggest you read from a variety of sources too.
By doing so you might find that the Iraq situation is better than you think, the economy is better than you read and President Bush is a decent president and man trying to make the right decisions.
