– Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications is to honor on Tuesday the site where such TV shows as “Bozo’s Circus,” “Garfield Goose and Friends” and “Ray Rayner and His Friends” were produced for 40 years. A bronze plaque is to be set outside Studio 1 at WGN-TV, 2501 W. Bradley Pl.
– Denzel Washington has given $25,000 to a program that helps the needy in Rocky Mount, N.C., pay their heating bills. The gift by the 50-year-old actor is believed to be the largest in the 19-year history of the Winter Assistance for Rocky Mount program. Officials said the donation resulted from Washington’s friendship with Rocky Mount native and high school coach Herman Boone, whom Washington played in the 2000 movie “Remember the Titans.”
– Incarcerated rap star Pimp C, half of the Texas duo Underground Kingz, or UGK, will be paroled within 30 days after serving about half of an 8-year sentence on an aggravated assault charge, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced Monday. Since he was sent to prison in January 2002, “Free Pimp C” has been a favorite phrase of rappers in the South and beyond. Scores of rappers have donned T-shirts and baseball caps with the words in music videos and at concerts and awards shows.
– Hold the curtain: The transformation of the Loop’s old Shubert Theatre into the LaSalle Bank Theatre, which was expected to be completed this year, has been pushed back until at least spring, Broadway in Chicago said Monday. The group said more time is needed to preserve historical assets uncovered in the 100-year-old building’s renovation, including mosaic floors and ceiling paintings. “Tuesdays With Morrie,” which was to open there Jan. 31, will be rescheduled for Feb. 28-March 12 in the Cadillac Palace Theatre.
