Thomas J. Daniel, age 81, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 of heart failure at Munster Community Hospital. Born July 17, 1924 in Chicago, Thomas was a resident of the South Side his entire life and spent his last years in Hegewisch. Loving father of Gregory and the late Lucille; son of the late Thomas and late Antonette; he was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Marie (late Anthony Sr.) Jeskey, Caroline (late James) Kaltenthaler, Chester (Tillie), Kinga (late George) Terikomos and Anthony; special uncle to Anthony (Myra) Jeskey, Richard (Estelle) Jeskey and David (Lynn) Jeskey; fond great-uncle to Christina Jeskey and Caren Jeskey; fond uncle and great-uncle to many others; special friend to George Lewandowski and Grant Strandberg. Very special thanks to friends, Janina and Joseph Klobucar who helped care for him. Thomas was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during World War II as a PFC in the 184th Ordinance Division and was awarded a Silver Battle Star, among other decorations, for his bravery at Utah Beach in the Normandy invasion. Thomas retired after 35 years with US Steel Corporation at Southworks. He worked his way through the ranks to become turn foreman blowing and was known for being calm and collected in the dangerous environment of the blast furnace division. Visitation Friday 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005 at 8:45 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago, to Sacred Heart Church.
