A former employee of Sara Lee Food Service, convicted last month of making a bomb threat, is now accused of embezzling about $126,000 from the company, authorities said Wednesday.
Rajesh Ramdhanie, 33, of the 900 block of Serendipity Drive, Aurora, was charged with felony theft, accused of stealing from the Rolling Meadows company, where he worked in the accounting department.
Ramdhanie surrendered his passport, and bail was set at $150,000 Tuesday in the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
Instead of paying company bills, Ramdhanie allegedly diverted funds into a personal account from April 29 to May 23.
“He didn’t have a drug problem,” said Rolling Meadows Police Sgt. Tony Gaspari. “He didn’t have a gambling problem. There was nothing significant that he would spend the money on other than he bought a car.”
Ramdhanie was convicted and sentenced to 18 months’ probation on a felony disorderly conduct charge for making the bomb threat, said Gaspari.
Company officials called 911 on May 12 to report that they had found notes saying a bomb would go off.
No explosives were found in the two-story building, which houses Sara Lee, with about 350 employees, and other businesses at 3800 Golf Road.
An investigation, which included reviewing company surveillance tapes and checking computers, led police to Ramdhanie, who was arrested June 29.
He was fired from the job he had held since February, said Gaspari.
