Sr. and Ida, nee Mackey; dear brother of Donald Jr. (Katherine), Mary (Jerry) Cairo, Donna (John) Asimakos and the late Joseph and John; loving uncle of Caitlin, Ian, George, Joseph, Mary, Michael, Penny and Wyatt. He was the youngest of six children. He was born with multiple special needs. In many ways his life story was the story of the many changes society has undergone in redefining how persons with disabilities are to be valued. After spending many years in various state institutions, he moved to Rock Island in 1993 to receive community living and day treatment services from RIARC. He will be deeply missed by the many RIARC individuals and service providers whose lives he touched. Tom enjoyed Special Olympics, Special Persons Encounter Christ religious activities, magazines, music, shredding paper for the recycling center, the Three Stooges and especially his meals and the company of women. In lieu of flowers, donations to ARC of Rock Island County, 4016 9th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201, appreciated. 847-965-2500.
