With regard to Saddam Hussein’s nuclear/biological weapons and intent to use same, this is what we know today:
– The White House cherry-picked intelligence to build a case for war. There was no reason to believe that after 12 years of saber rattling, he posed an imminent threat to us or his neighbors in 2002. In fact, his past misdeeds and results thereof may have given him pause to do so.
– Hussein had no ties to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Those responsible are still at large.
– Iraq is more of a terrorist haven now than before our invasion.
– The ability to win a war against a paper tiger and then successfully occupy Iraq and transition it to a democracy was not carefully planned.
– The consequences in terms of lost lives, deficit funding and our reputation were unanticipated
