In Mexico, families start gearing up for Christmas Eve on Dec. 16 with nine days of posadas, essentially the reenactment of the biblical journey to Bethlehem (posada translates to inn), followed by a party that includes pinatas for kids, and ponche, a brandy-laden fruit toddy, for adults ($1.95). Rique’s Regional Mexican Food launches its posada celebration Friday with a special four-course, fixed-price menu ($19.95); choices include grilled chicken breast with almond-mole sauce and beef tenderloin with chipotle-orange sauce. Plus, there’s live Mexican holiday music and plenty of ponche–but since this place is BYOB, remember to bring a bottle of brandy to spike your sipper. The restaurant’s decked with festive pinatas, and if your birthday’s in December, you get to take one home to stuff for your own soiree. Reservations required. 5004 N. Sheridan Rd. 773-728-6200.
