During the Second World War, I will bet that no one talked about an exit strategy when things were not going well. In fact the strategy in that war was total victory with the only exit being needed after the enemy was completely defeated and surrender was achieved.
Since World War II, we seem preoccupied with achieving negotiated settlements when we find ourselves involved in armed conflicts that are not won in an instant.
I will personally become an anti-war advocate if we are going to make it a policy that the United States will not go for the win every time we enter hostilities.
The United States is the most powerful nation on Earth. And if other nations are going to respect us, they must fear us first.
If the United States had maintained the national unity that we briefly enjoyed when we went into Afghanistan to eradicate Al Qaeda, the battle for Iraq now would be over.
Just like Vietnam, we are losing our collective stomach for battle losses and are putting our soldiers in jeopardy by fighting a war with one arm tied behind our back.
I am a Vietnam veteran who doesn’t want to repeat the loss of national backbone that happened back then.
On the upside, at least people aren’t spitting on the troops when they come home.
