Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

To those of us who have been blessed and have a history of overindulging our children (myself included) during the holidays, I have a suggestion:

Let’s overindulge just a tad less this year, to the benefit of some less fortunate children in the Chicagoland area. I grabbed two Angel Tree tags from the decorative tree in my office building, expressing the special wishes of two needy children, the same ages as my two children. We went out as a family, with each child helping in the selection of gifts for their same-age new friend.

This has been a wonderful experience for my children, to be able to make a personal contribution to children so much less fortunate than them, and is so much more rewarding than just writing a check.

So please, to those of us who are able, please write that check to a holiday fund, help stock your local food pantry, but, if you can, go make that special purchase to brighten the holiday season for the most innocent and vulnerable among us.

You still have nine days to make a difference!
