The ID debate is based on the belief that humans are too complicated to have evolved naturally, therefore there must have been a higher power that created humans.

More than 30 years ago my philosophy teacher in college easily showed how such a position lacked any logic. A higher power that could have created humans would also have to have been so complicated it must have been created by a higher power also.

Therefore if the intelligent design position was based on logic, it would argue there is an infinite number of higher powers, not just one.

I find it interesting that in all my reading about this topic, this simple fact has never been stated.

My teacher was an Orthodox Jew who frequently stated that religion and the belief in God was an issue of faith, not science, and the two should never be mixed.
