In response to Brian Urlacher’s petulant query (Tribune, Dec. 11) about where, on a quarterback’s body, it’s permissible to tackle him, I offer the following: Rex Grossman, Daunte Culpepper, Jeff Garcia, Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch, Kyle Boller, Brian Griese, Byron Leftwich, Marc Bulger, Jamie Martin and Steve McNair.

That’s an off-the-top-of-my-head list of NFL quarterbacks who either have missed games or are out for the season because of injury, so somebody must be able to tackle them without incurring a penalty.

Perhaps Urlacher should allow himself to be hit five or six or more times a game with his entire torso exposed, like a quarterback throwing a pass, so he can learn to appreciate why there are special considerations for quarterbacks.
