We all get angry. And we all hide it at times. It’s when that anger gets expressed in subtle ways–moodiness, negativity, conflicts with co-workers or behavior that undermines others–that it becomes passive-aggression and causes problems.

Tim Murphy, a psychologist and U.S. representative from Pennsylvania, and writer Loriann Hoff Oberlin have authored “Overcoming Passive-Aggression: How to Stop Hidden Anger From Spoiling Your Relationships, Career and Happiness” (Marlowe & Co., $15.95 paper).

After explaining hidden anger and passive-aggression, the authors move on to other topics: comparisons of happy people and angry people, childhood roots of passive-aggression. They explain how to deal with hidden anger in ourselves and within our families and close out with advice on “Rewriting Your Own Anger Script.”

We all get angry. This book makes it clearer why, and what we can do about it.

Grrrrr: “Whether in a political campaign, in the corporate boardroom, in your cubicle, at the dinner table or in the school cafeteria, anger and how we express it is a meaningful barometer of what’s going on in our lives.”
