While performing Thursday in Tokyo, singer Ashlee Simpson abruptly left the stage and later was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in an elevator.

The 21-year-old was in Tokyo for an MTV Japan concert and to promote her album. According to mtv.com, she walked offstage midway through her second song, “Boyfriend” and returned a few minutes later. She apologized, claiming she’d been touring a lot and was losing her voice. Other reports said she told the audience that she wasn’t feeling well and that she loved them.

Her rep confirmed Simpson’s stay in the hospital to The Associated Press, but gave no more information. According to fan forums on her official Web site, the singer suffered from exhaustion and will be home for Christmas. An upcoming appearance on Monday’s Radio Music Awards has been canceled.
