If we are talking about baseball, the Cubs aren’t second best. They are about 28th best. The White Sox are the best. Period. They are the World Champions. How can there be any question as to which team is better?

Now, if you are referring to who is more popular, that is a little more complicated. Since the Cubs have their own newspaper and television station, they can pretty much bury the Sox in the press.

The Cubs are very popular with the young, fresh-outta-college, non-Chicagoan clientele that live all around their ballpark. They spend money like water, drink beer like water, and pack their ballpark all summer because they can stumble out of there into another bar and eventually into their apartment.

The Sox are very popular with generations of families that grew up on the South Side and either still live there or are in the not-too-far-off southern suburbs.

I do believe whatever true baseball fans are left on the North Side know that the best team in Chicago, or in the world for that matter, is the Sox.

That is the beauty of winning the World Series. It leaves absolutely no question as to who is the best.
