Speaking as a Cubs season-ticket holder who has sat in the left-field bleachers for nearly 1,000 games since 1984 (Yeah, I’m a glutton for punishment!), I have no problem in congratulating the White Sox for their championship year. (“Face it: Chicago now a White Sox town,” Dec. 15 column by Jimmy Greenfield)
They earned it from Day 1. But is Chicago now a White Sox town? Sure, when they sell out more than 10 games a year.
That’s not a slam on the Sox. That’s a slam on “die-hard” Sox fans who support their favorite team from their couch.
