Eudora “Dodie” Jones Schafer, age 82 of Nashville, passed away December 16, 2005. Dodie was born October 12, 1923, Defoe, KY. She grew up in Madison, IN and was a 1944 graduate of Cumberland College, Kentucky. She was dedicated to public school excellence, both as a PTA leader, school reformer, and an employee of Chicago Public Schools, including work with trouble youth as a truant officer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Cynthia Jones; siblings, Louanna, Thurmon, Florence, Winfred and Thelma. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Schafer of Nashville; one sister, Mary Edith Mosher of Dayton, OH; by children and in-laws, Michal Ann Schafer of Woodbridge, VA, Polly (Rick) Brannelly of Darwin, Australia, David (Debra Wright) Schafer of Chicago, IL and Daniel (Melissa Rose) Schafer of Nashville; two grandchildren, Jacob and Vladimir Schafer of Nashville. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 643 Harding Place. Interment took place at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education, 1531 9th Ave. North, Nashville, TN 37208.
