John William Jaeger, 70 years old, of Galena, passed away at his home from cancer on December 28, 2005. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, IL where the scripture wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. After a long and successful career with United States Gypsum Company, he retired in 1991 and moved from the Chicago suburb of Kenilworth, IL to Galena near his boyhood homes of Elizabeth, IL and Clinton, IA. In Galena he was very active in the community – a member of the Rotary, instrumental in developinga senior citizen web site, board member of Habitat for Humanity of Jo Daviess County, President and director of the Galena Territory Association, Apple River Fort board member, Guilford Township Trustee, a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church Choir, as well as other church and community organizations. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen, nee Fitzsimons; two daughters, Anne (Bob) Foley and Maggie (Chris) Mordi; six grandchildren, Maggie, John and Nicholas Foley and Fitz, Jack and Cate Mordi; he is also survived by a sister Anne (John) Maloney; and many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. He was a man of love, loyalty and humor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Habitat for Humanity of Jo Daviess County, P.O.
