Some letter writers state they would not mind having government tap their phones. Presumably they have not had the honor of that attention. I have. My crimes? In 1968 I publicly objected to the Vietnam War, once displaying my World War II Purple Heart on a peace march. And I acted as a host for “Clean Gene” McCarthy’s Democratic Convention delegates.

The government got an earful. My eight kids, including five daughters, stayed home that summer. My wife worked the same line as a market researcher.
