New Line, $28.98
Who’s in it: Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams
Recap: Wilson and Vaughn play a pair of cynical cads who sneak into weddings to pick up girls, only to find–horror of horrors–true love.
Best extra: Wilson and Vaughn’s chemistry make the movie worth watching, so it’s no surprise their sometimes serious, often not, commentary is so enjoyable.
Secrets revealed: An actual wedding planner was hired to get the opening montage of different ethnic fetes (the film’s early high point) just right.
Feature to skip: The “Uncorked” DVD version adds about eight extra minutes to the already overstuffed and uneven movie, yet some much-needed character development still was left on the cutting-room floor.
Trivia: Director David Dobkin was instructed to deliver a PG-13 cut, but the R-rated version got a much better response at preview screenings. Thus the studio relented, and the film grossed more than $200 million at the box office.
If you liked this, try: “Dodgeball,” another mostly-crap film Vaughn carries.
RATING: THREE PLAY BUTTONS.
