– Mira Sorvino, who won an Oscar for her role in Woody Allen’s 1995 film, “Mighty Aphrodite,” is expecting her second child with husband Chris Backus. The couple’s first child, Mattea Angel, was born in November 2004. The 38-year-old actress and Backus, a 24-year-old actor, were married in June of that year. “I’m so excited that Mattea is going to have a sibling,” Sorvino told People magazine. “We’re going to be a family of four.” The baby is due this summer, People reported.
– Bravo will pay tribute to Oscar-winning director Ron Howard in the special, “Moving Image Salutes Ron Howard.” The tribute, which airs Saturday, includes a first look at Howard’s adaptation of the best-selling novel “The Da Vinci Code,” due in theaters in May. Special guests and presenters include Jim Carrey, Edie Falco, Paul Giamatti, Howard’s longtime producing partner Brian Grazer and Tom Hanks, Goldie Hawn, Bryce Dallas Howard, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Jeffrey Tambor and Renee Zellweger. Howard, 51, won the best-director Oscar for 2001’s “A Beautiful Mind.”
– Pete Townshend has warned iPod users they may face hearing problems if they don’t turn down the volume. Townshend, guitarist in The Who, said his hearing has been damaged by years of using studio headphones. “Hearing loss is a terrible thing because it cannot be repaired,” he said on his Web site. “If you use an iPod or anything like it, or your child uses one, you MAY be OK. … But my intuition tells me there is terrible trouble ahead.” The Who were famous for their earsplitting live performances.
