Congratulations to Bruce Sutter on his Hall of Fame induction. Watching Sutter use his 86-m.p.h. delivery with his split-fingered pitch was a delight.

Early on, when no one in the major leagues could get an advantage on Sutter, the Reds looked to Pete Rose for batting strategy.

For Game 1 of the series, Rose advised, “Lay off the pitch,” with no success. For Game 2 he said, “Swing away,” with the same negative result. When the team came to him for Game 3 advice, Rose told them, “You’re on your own.”

Don’t get me started on famous Cub trades. The Cubs could have used Bruce Sutter in Game 6 at Wrigley not too long ago.
