I really got a kick out of Robert Hughes confessing to not knowing what and where Myanmar and Yangon are (“My Myanmar, formerly known as Burma,” Commentary, Jan. 4). Me too.
In fact, names have changed so much since I studied geography–and sent a soldier a “Merry Burmese Christmas” back in the ’40s–that I don’t even try to keep track. I’m pretty sure Anna and the King would be Thailand, but that’s about it.
Thanks, Robert, for reminding me to Google my ignorance, and a Happy Myanmar New Year to you.
