– Aretha Franklin will join New Orleans singer Aaron Neville in performing the national anthem at next month’s Super Bowl XL. The Grammy Award-winning singers will be accompanied at the Detroit event by another veteran New Orleans musician, pianist Dr. John.
– John Lennon’s original draft of the lyrics to “A Day in the Life” went on sale Tuesday, the 39th anniversary of the date Lennon was inspired to compose the song after reading his morning newspaper, the auction house Bonhams said. The manuscript will be sold in a sealed-bid auction ending March 7, the British auctioneer, with offices in New York and on the West Coast, said.
– The Golden Globes’ move to Monday gave the NBC program a slight ratings boost over last year’s telecast, which battled ABC’s “Desperate Housewives”-led Sunday juggernaut. But this year’s Globes faced a different rival: the final two hours of the four-hour launch of the new season of Fox’s thriller “24.” The three-hour Golden Globes show drew 18.7 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures, up about 2 million viewers from last year. But “24” attracted 14.9 million viewers, helping keep NBC’s gains to a minimum.
