This is regarding “Do-it-yourself at the store too; Retailers want to improve margins and offer customers a choice, but self-service lanes aren’t always convenient for users” (Business, Jan. 16). I recently was in line at Jewel when an employee, trying to be helpful, asked if I would like to use the self-checkout. My response was to ask whether that would result in a discount, since I was going to be doing his job. I bet you know the answer.
