Picking the best Midwest novel
Sinclair Lewis’ “Main Street” has stayed in my mind more than any other Midwestern novel; the combination of Carol’s loneliness and the bleak beauty of frozen Minnesota fields.

Tabloid format is a hit
Was the “Hallelujah” Chorus audible from the South Side? I am very pleased that you’ve returned to the tabloid format–I’ve quietly cursed the section each Sunday since you changed it, but no other newspaper compares to yours for content.
Reading the Books section has long been one of my pleasures–it’s what makes Sunday morning Sunday morning. I’m grateful for the people who continued to express their dissatisfaction with the former format as, I am ashamed to admit, I did nothing more than think dark thoughts and then read on. You all do an outstanding job of reviewing books and presenting other features!

What a treat was in store for me when I reached for the Books secion of Sunday’s Trib. I was one of the many that complained when the format was changed several years ago. Even though it took quite a long time for you to change back, I thank you.

The Books section was something that I discovered as a high school student and something to enjoy as I grew older. In this new format, the articles and columns are easier to read.

Where’s the good stuff?
I like the size of the Books section, very manageable, but it really seems to be lacking substance. I would normally put the section aside, to be read when I had time to savor the articles. Where did all the good articles go? Now I can breeze through it in 2 minutes. Please bring back more book reviews; I choose a lot of my books based on the reviews in the book section.
