What we need to kick our “oil addiction” (“Addicted to Oil,” Feb. 1) are not more “quick fossil fuel-and-nuclear technical fixes” but a fundamental change in our behavior, attitudes and assumptions. We need a truly ecologically sustainable national energy strategy that does the following: Reassesses our real energy requirements; greatly improves the efficiency of our autos, SUVs, airplanes and buildings; uses more renewable energy technologies such as biodiesel, alcohol fuels, renewable hydrogen from solar and wind, solar space and water heating.
