The Cook County Board approved a 2006 budget Thursday that doubles the cigarette tax to $2 per pack from $1. RedEye asked Chicagoans whether they agree with the tax, which goes into effect March 1.
“When I started smoking, cigarettes were like $2.50 a pack, now I’m paying anywhere between $5 and $7 a pack. It’s ridiculous.”
