Davis makes it official

Indiana coach Mike Davis resigned Thursday after months of speculation and increased criticism. “I want our players to get it out of their minds whether coach Davis is returning,” he said. “It’s time for Indiana basketball to move forward.”

Chicago lands new franchise

The National Lacrosse League is expanding into Chicago for the 2007 season. The team, which has not yet been named, will play eight home games in Hoffman Estates and is partly owned by former NBA player and Bulls coach Kevin Loughery Sr.

No charges for Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky will not face criminal charges in a multimillion-dollar sports betting ring busted in New Jersey last week, and he is unlikely to be called to testify against others, his lawyer said. Gretzky’s wife also is unlikely to face charges.

Butler breaks Ramblers down
