– Catherine Deneuve won a lifetime achievement award at the Bangkok Film Festival, the BBC reported Saturday. Deneuve was in the Thai capital to accept the honor. Also winning a Golden Kinaree was Felicity Huffman for her role in “Transamerica.”
– Bob Geldof and Bono have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, London’s Daily Telegraph reported Saturday. They are among a near-record 191 nominees. While the candidates’ list is kept secret for 50 years, some who vote announce their choices. The award will be presented in Oslo on Dec 10.
– Director Rob Reiner stepped down temporarily as chairman of a California early-education commission amid scrutiny about the potential misuse of taxpayer funds for a June ballot initiative he is spearheading. In a letter Friday to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Reiner said his leave from the First 5 California Children and Families Commission will end June 7, the day after the vote on Proposition 82, which would establish a state constitutional right to preschool for 4-year-olds.
– 50 Cent says he regards Eminem as a role model when it comes to dealing with stardom. “I kind of look to Eminem to gauge how I should respond to success,” the rapper said at a news conference Friday in Taiwan, where he was performing.
